Slow Cooker With Pre-Programmed Recipes

Healthy Kitchen Slow Cooker by Dr. Weil (Image courtesy Bloomingdale's) By Andrew Liszewski

For better or for worse high-tech gadgets are slowly spreading like a virus from other parts of our homes into the kitchen. This slow cooker is the latest appliance to get infected and as a result now has the telltale growth of an LCD display on the front. It was developed by Dr. Andrew Weil who apparently has a whole line of kitchen appliances designed for healthy living. I don’t really know his background but with a name like Andrew he must know what he’s talking about.

Besides giving you another gadget to play with in the kitchen the LCD display can also be used to access a database of over 40 pre-programmed recipes. In addition to the necessary ingredients these recipes also tell the slow cooker how long and at what temperature to cook the food. When it’s done the unit will then switch to a warming-mode for up to 6 hours. You can even program in your own recipes as needed but just be aware that your butterscotch chicken or chocolate meatballs probably go against the whole ‘Healthy Kitchen’ theme.

The Healthy Kitchen Slow Cooker is available from Bloomingdale’s for $149.99.
