Sandisk has released a widescreen portable media player named the Sansa View. Announced at CES 2007, the Sansa View comes in a “pocket-able” design with a 4 in. widescreen display. The 8 GB version will be available in the first quarter of 2007 in the US for $299. Some of the more interesting features that make this player different from similar products are the flash-based storage, an expansion slot that supports SD and SDHC (SD High Capacity) cards as well as the capability to output AV content to a TV (up to 1080i if using the docking station).

No player can enter the market without the inevitable comparison to Apple’s iPods. IMO the Sansa View could be considered a middle-ground item, somewhere between the iPod Video and iPod Nano, since it combines the Video’s multimedia capabilities with the Nano’s flash-based storage and compact design.
